ON TO MARREE - 2ndJune

ON TO MARREE – 2ND JUNE

Stopped at Lyndhurst to cover the vents with plastic, dropped the tyre pressure and fitted the stone guard, which we had forgotten was wrapped up tight on the roof racks and we had to undo everything to get it off. We also covered the back window just in case.

Farina ruins
Had lunch at Farina which is the remains of a town which was interesting but not as impressive as Kanyacka. The crazy government at that time set up 440 odd 1/4 acre allotments plus a few acreages a total of about 500 allotments but only about 52 houses were ever built. The area was established to grow wheat but proved unsuitable.

Just after Farina saw our first wildlife which was a young emu on the road which then made a frantic dash to get out of our way.

We had a little trouble with one of our water tanks not filling up and Ian found that one of the hoses has been crimped but since we are not in a position to refill the tanks we will have to manage with one of the tanks only half full until we get to where there is more available water.

We have met lots of lovely people already.  Hi to Bruce and Maureen – how’s Woomera? Hello to John and Suzanne.

We drove up the Strzelecki track a short way just to say we had been on it.

Marree Pub
Had a quick drive around Marree and took a few photos topped up with diesel ($1.95 litre) drove up the Birdsville track a short distance and then later someone who had seen us coming out stopped and asked us “Did you drive down the Birdsville towing that van?” Ha ha.
