CAPE RANGE NATIONAL PARK

CAPE RANGE NATIONAL PARK – 20TH SEPTEMBER

Headed into Exmouth and on to Cape Grange National Park. The Ningaloo Marine Park is off the Western side of the point.  There are several NP camp areas but they fill quickly. We are down at Yardie Creek which is at the furthermost end but was  the last camp site available. There is an overflow where there will still a couple of spots from the overflow campers are channelled into other spots as they become available.

We have done the Yardie creek cruise seeing Black footed wallabies and various wildlife and also trekked along the Yardie creek Gorge walk.

The beach is great, miles and miles of beautiful water and rocky/sandy beach with the Ningaloo reef in the distance and lots of turtles and reef sharks near the shore. We have already walked long distances along it. The only slight drawback is that it has been very windy.

On the way out we stopped at Tiesel where there is a rookery of turtles. They were very close to the beach and mating one or two came right up on the beach.

KARIJINI NATIONAL PARK – 14TH SEPTEMBER

Karijini is certainly what you would describe as an interesting park the geological formations are fascinating. There appeared to be a lot of metal in the rocks which were layered as though laying slabs of slate one on top of another. The gorges were more cut into the flat ground rather than separations of mountains. Although several of the lookouts are close to the car parking to get down to the pools and gorges is more of a physical challenge.

BROOME-1 September

The Colours of Broome. We have never seen the sea this colour ever. A beautiful clear turquoise contrasting sharply with the deep ochre rocks and green palms – absolutely lovely. Cable beach is beautiful with soft sand, turquoise sea and very high tides.

MARY POOL

This would be one of the most talked about Rest Areas, everywhere we have camped people have told us about it and with good reason. It is a huge RA along the banks of a river and very lovely. The cows wander around the camp site and are not too wild. Again the birdlife is abundant and very noisy.
